Should we rename/rebrand the drupal-con mailing list? It is no longer used. I think we are better off renaming (delete + create) the mailing list to "events at drupal dot org".
For example, I'd love to have a good place to reach out to all Drupal User Group organizers throughout the world. (We could also create an additional mailing list "dug at drupal dot org" but that might be too narrow?)

As a DUG "dis"organizer I'd be happy to subscribe to the events list.

moshe weitzman commentedSince Drupal user groups all exist on groups site with a given taxo term, it is quite simple to create a form for broadcasting email to them. If we want a more interactive discussion, then perhaps a mail list is in order, or another group on groups site. I don't like the idea of asking people to register on another list of we can help it.

dries commentedA couple of points:
- This was meant to be a list for DUG/event organizers, not for attendees. When someone wants to organize a DUG and wants to ask for advice, he needs to broadcast this to all DUGs?
- It would be nice if we could get the DUGs to cooperate a little. For example, to organize a worldwide Drupal 5 release party.
- It would be nice to have a point of contact so we can spread leaflets, swag or other things to the organizers.
- I'm just thinking about ways to improve/coordinate our outreach a little bit. The same could be done for all the local Drupal communities (eg. drupal.hu, drupal.cn). Currently, we've no good way to communicate/coordinate with them.
Some other projects have such a mailing list as well. Take Gnome for example: http://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/gugmasters-list. They use it for things like this: http://mail.gnome.org/archives/gugmasters-list/2007-January/msg00000.html. Joomla has something similar but I can't find the URL at the moment.
Not pressing, just something to thinker about.

gregglesWell, I finally had something to share with other group organizers so I created a "user group meta group" as a working group on g.d.o
http://groups.drupal.org/user-group-meta-group
When folks sign up they get to see the private post about how to join the APress official "User Group" club which then lets you get free books...like the Pro Drupal Development book ;)
I'm leaving this active since it's possible that the conference mailing list should be renamed/abandoned, but I'm happy with this new solution (as long as folks join and use it).

gregglesI'd say this is "fixed" though the event organization group is now at http://groups.drupal.org/drupal-camp
If anything I guess this should be for removing the -con mailing list, but I'm marking this fixed anyway since don't think that stale mailman lists really cost us anything and it's fine if we just leave it around for the sake of the archives.

drummThis list is still listed at http://drupal.org/mailing-lists. I decided to go ahead and remove it, http://drupalcode.org/project/drupalorg.git/commit/125a544. The list has been light spam for the last 3 or 4 years. I think we might want to shut down subscription in mailman, saving the private archives.
