We should arrange a theme competition.

Users pay $5 each, the winning theme takes all the money, and the contributors get access to the theme that wins?

If such a thing happens, I'd be more than happy to contribute.

So users of the theme must pay $5 to use it. The author of the theme takes all the money. What happens to contributers that contributed to the theme in order to become a "winner"?

I think what he meant was that each participant would pay 5$ to enter the competition.

$5 fee? Still interested.

How about contributers pay $5 per entry to enter, the winner gets the money, and everyone has access to all the themes submitted.
You could also split the entry fees for three prizes, 20% for third prize, 30% for second prize, and 50% for first prize.

Another idea is to require all entries to be released under an open source license or creative commons.

I hope this takes off. More themes are a great idea.
