Here's the scenario:

create a field and tick 'hide field if empty' as well as 'rewrite the output of this field'. Enter some text into the rewrite field. Even if the field is empty, the static contents of the rewrite textarea are shown in the view. This is different from the functionality in views 2, and makes it impossible to create custom formatted fields that are hidden when empty.

Is this intended?

Yes, I'm needing this also. Trying to find a workaround.

I have been using version 6.x-3.x-dev (2010-Sep-14) and was not having this issue.

I updated to version 6.x-3.x-dev (2011-Apr-27) and now having this issue.

I have a view with field 'Node: Has new content' excluded from displayed and a rewrite output to display an image instead of the 'new' or 'updated' text. The problem is when I updated to the latest dev version, the image shows up for every node regardless of whether or not there is new content for the node.

I attached the view export of both cases. However, I don't think it will help much. If I export the view from the 6.x-3.x-dev (2011-Apr-27) version and import into the 6.x-3.x-dev (2010-Sep-14) version, I don't have the issue.
