Is it possible to tag an item even if the taxonomy value is plural but the value in the text is not plural?

This is an issue for both the 6.x and 7.x version of the module. I believe adding a synonym may have helped in 6.x, but given that 7.x no longer supports synonyms, that won't help. I'll need to look into this.
