We used Drupal 6.x and Ubercart 2.x with a combination of other modules (cck, views, and others) to create the desired functionality. The theme is a modified version of acquia prosper. The next release will incorporate newsletters and featured/related products.
The CMS of our choice is Drupal because of its maturity, stability and large number of features.
