When I click backup now button, I get the following error:

The webpage at http://www.xxxxxx.com/admin/content/backup_migrate/export/quick might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address.
Error 324 (net::ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE): Unknown error.

Is this something related to the module or maybe my hosting? I am using a restrictive free hosting site.

Sounds like you're getting a white-screen-of-death fatal error, you'll need to check your server's error logs to get more info as to what's actually breaking here.
