Frankly speaking, I am not sure it would make sense. Using Drupal 7 with OpenLayers + Geocoder, I have been able to show my tracks on a map, using Google Maps as a base layer, within ca. 1 hour (and I am a Drupal newbie :)). What is a possible use case for this module then?

Using geofield you lose elevation and other attributes. There might be a use case, when you want to keep these data, and show elevation profile for example. You might probably circumvent the problem with some smaller code though.
