• Multi level items in Toolbar
  • Features integration
  • Layout and style re-factoring
  1. Multi level items in Toolbar : Allow the creation of hierarchically organized, up to three levels menu items.
  2. Use of the Drupal menu system for shortcuts. All menu items (let's stop calling them shortcuts) should be managed from the Drupal menu system.

Toolbar X is bind to menu Y. All items are created and managed from Drupal menu system by editing menu Y.

Toolbar already uses the menu system for managing links, but the module has it's own interface. It's a lot of code to maintain and currently limited to one level menu items. Even more code has to be copied/pasted and adapted from the menu system to allow multi level menus. Finally we will reproduce similar interfaces and same functionality (multi level menu system). We don't need and want this.

The main disadvantage of using the menu system is that Toolbar menus will be available in the whole Drupal scope.

  3. Features integration
    • export Toolbars and the corresponding menu items
    • export Toolbar per role assignments
    • export Toolbar per user assignments
  4. Layout and style re-factoring
    • Remove images for better performance and accessibility
    • Clean CSS and provide only minimalistic layout (Admin menu like)
    • Full Skinr support
    • ship at least 2 themes with the release

Greetings,

I have been using the Toolbar module for a while now and find it extremely useful, especially for creating a simple navigation menu for users at the top of the page. I have tried quite a few navigation type modules, but find Toolbar the most suitable for my needs.

Would it be possible to integrate the User Notifications module with Toolbar? I have asked the developer of the module about Toolbar integration, as an integration of the two modules would be great. It would allow Rules triggered notifications, such as new private message notification alerts, to be displayed on the Toolbar. This would be similar to the WordPress and Elgg user navigation menus, that alerts users that they have new mail, etc.

Many thanks for sharing your module with us,

Shane.

Shortcut suggestion idea

It would be very useful to track (for the admin user) the pages he visits all the time. Based on that, it would appear a list with shortcut suggestions to add to the toolbar.

@moosh101 great idea, I'm already working on the refactoring of the right side of the Toolbar I see it more as "statusbar" user interface. User notifications go exactly there. I'm working on a chaos tools plugin scheme to implement that.

@sergiu.popa This is good idea but can you please check for a module which can provide such information (most visited pages per user). It's not Toolbar's role to track site visits. If there is a good module which can provide this information we can try to make it work with Toolbar.

Thank you for your suggestions I'll consider them for sure.

Hi Daniel,

thanks for this extremely useful module, I set it up for clients on every site I create.

I'm really happy to see all the new features that will be in 3.x version, +1 for all of them! ;)

I just tried to configure D7 shortcut module, but unfortunately it's not possible to assign shortcut set to role, so, my feature request, after you made stable D6.x-3.x branch, is D7.x-3.x version.

Another feature / setting that would be great is to be able to turn off (or should it be default behavior?) floating of toolbar menu, so that toolbar is fixed to the top of the web page screen, just like admin_menu is.
Floating toolbar can cause some usability issues for example when viewing table style views with floating headers or modifying user permissions.

How are you handling drupal 7 since the toolbar module namespace already exists? Maybe there can be some sort of collaboration with quickbar (http://drupal.org/project/quickbar) and toolbar using the quickbar namespace.

Quickbar already uses the menu system and has multiple levels. It also has a beginning of theme handling. I could definitely use help with features integration and exportables.

What do you think?

Thank you for this module. The Toolbar 3 module will be awesome if we have notifications, token support etc.

About the shortcuts based on the browsing history... This kind of module may help... http://drupal.org/project/history_rec http://drupal.org/project/recommender

Do you think there will be a possibility to add the local tasks in the Toolbar ?

Let us know if you need help, I hope I'll be able to use this Toolbar 3 for my current project.

Best,

Thank you.

Hi, ppls. Thanks, u've made a very good module! It's ideal for visual control of functional access for content managers. D7 shortcut cannot be used this way, because it is a part of dashboard. So, it would be cool if you port it into D7. Good luck!

Hey, privatem, you might want to check out (http://drupal.org/project/quickbar) as mentioned above. It's similar, and it is in Drupal 7.

Greetings,

Just an update request as to how the new Toolbar 3 module is progressing?

Thanks,

Shane.

Really nice module, thanks a lot for sharing!

Multiple level menus would be great. Also displaying avatar picture before the "Hi username" system menu would be nice.

Keep up the good work

What's the status of this? Looks like nothing has happened for quite a while. Is Toolbar3 still an active project? For those of us confined to Drupal 6 for a while, it would be great if you could develop this module further. We are very appreciative of your work so far and would love to have some of the features described here, particularly:

  • Drop down menus

I am closing this issue, as Drupal 6 is now not supported.
