I have put a couple of fields in a group, and configured the group to be collapsible and collapsed.
But when I save the node, nothing changes: I don't see any collapsible field around the fields.
The html doesn't have any relevant markup, either.

Grrrr.
I understand. The grouping only affects the edit form, not the viewing output.

1) Maybe improve help text?
2) Maybe have this setting affect the default output, as well?

I know that 2) can be themed manually, but a patch for 1) may be considered. If not, you can close this issue.

Yes, this needs to be done. There is an old issue outstanding from before fieldgroup got added to CCK core at http://drupal.org/node/85679.
