The print link is not visable on pages generated by views. Also, it would be nice if the printable pages and all subpages option applied to pages/parent pages generated through menus. This printable feature isn't so helpful on Book pages.

The print link will be visible if you configure that path in the non-content pages.

Regarding the book/menu issue, that is really what the book module does: organizing nodes into a tree-like hierarchy. I understand it's not perfect, but it's not the objective of the module to implement a book-like replacement based on menus.. sorry.
