The insertion of <!--break--> does not work.

The 'tag' gets displayed, and does not cut of as expected.

You can close an issue yourself if needs be. Also, please do not change the title of an issue. The title field is for the whole thread, not your particular comment.

I'm actually leaving this open, as I DO consider this a bug in Drupal 5.

The break change was reverted in rc2.
