instead of a 'river of news' posts on an (organic) group homepage, is it possible to get the following?

  1. a list of post titles instead? (just the titles)
  2. a list of titles, but with a fivestar rating next to each title? (i don't know if its possible to rate a group or to show it as being rated)
  3. 2 links that appear at the top of the list - one saying "post teasers" & the other saying "just titles" - that'll change the display depending what you click on. ie: some kind of exposed filter thing
  4. several tabs, with different things under each tab? (maybe with Panels?)

i'm guessing some of this could be achieved with Views (if Views works with OG) but i don't know if you can use a Views created page for the home page of a group

any ideas?

You'll definitely want views.

You can choose the view that is used for the home page of OG's. River of News is itself a view.

Under OG configuration (admin/og/og), you can choose the view to be used for OG home pages.
