Can anyone advise on a problem I have just started having with logging in.

The following suddenly happened yesterday:
In the morning, I could log in and edit a couple of entries. I did no admin work ie didn't change any settings, didn't add amend or delete any files.
When I returned from work in the evening , I logged in with the idea of completing an edit of a book page. The login accepted my details as usual, showed me as logged in and when I went to the book page the edit tab was displayed. However, when I hit the edit tab the book page refreshed as an empty space (as if not authorised).
The primary links in the header refreshed to indicate I was not logged in but the 'Who's Online' and 'Online Users' module showed that I was. I now find that I can't log out or log in. I tried this in both Firefox 2.0 and IE7 with no difference.
Today, back at work, I have attempted to log in from another pc , using IE6. Initially I could log in and the edit tab showed as before but then exactly the same as above.
I have had an unrelated ongoing minor issue with Firefox regarding the hierarchy menu that is at the top of the page (it's normally clickable so you can navigate back up the chain but doesn't function in Firefox,not for me anyway) but apart from that everything has been going well...until now.

I would appreciate any advice! Anyone else getting this problem?
