Hello, I have spent some time away from Drupal for a while. I recently installed a fresh version of Drupal 7 and have been quite pleasantly surprised. A lot of functionality has been added to the core, but I notice that there is no core ping module any more and I don't see any ping modules that are compatible with Drupal 7, so I am wondering if there is no need for the ping module in Drupal 7, or if there is, but the issue hasn't been addressed yet? Any input from anyone would be helpful.

I'm also really surprised that there is no information about this at all. I have build a website with Drupal7 recently and it takes ages for Google to update it's result or even realise that I make some changes on the website. Why has it been removed? And why is there no alternative option?
