Developers,

As you may be aware, Google has built an API to enable user synchronization with their new web apps, such as calendars, spreadsheets, chat, and gmail@yourdomain.com

They currently give Google apps beta accounts to schools, three of which I am webmaster for.

If there are developers eager to learn the Google apps API and help write a Drupal module to provide single sign on to these services, please get in touch with me! I have a hunch this could be a very popular module once Google's apps take off, as they undoubtedly will.

It would be great! We use Drupal and Google apps for our community of MIIT university (Russia) inngroup.ru . I'd like to take part in this project, but I only begin study PHP.

This really sounds like it'd be up my ally. I started a site for my family members where they all get together to keep each other updated. It's built in drupal and they all really like it. I've used google apps for my domain already with another domain name of mine and found the integration pretty nice, but it would really be that much better if integrated into drupal. At least the user signup process. Google apps doesn't really have a sign-up form for people to sign up for my domain's apps, so if integration is possible, I think that'd be a key feature: signup through drupal and get a google apps account. Calendar integration would also be very sweet since I've found the whole views calendar thing to be very arcane and somewhat crude in comparison.

I've not signed up for the premium to have access to the API's but don't mind doing the trial and if we would get something going it'd be worth the money just for the experience of doing it.

So where would you start?

Here's what I'm imagining...

One main module that provides the API to a suite of other modules that each provide specific functionality.

Here are some logical groupings for different sub-modules (in order of priority for me):

1) Single sign on for Drupal and Google email accounts. (The user logs into Drupal and their Google Apps email account is a click away._

2) Google apps email account creation with a per-role granularity (Users of a specified role have Google apps email accounts created automatically, with username and password synchronization.)

I think the key is that we want to build something extensible and easily debugged. Because the Google Apps API will continue to evolve, the core API should probably be consolidated into a single Drupal module that can be updated easily and follows some basic syntactical rules around function names. But now I'm beyond the scope of my own knowledge.

Can others please contact me with a sense of your interests and your willingness to offer development time, talents, or funding for such a module.

(If others have a "pet" interest in a specific functionality, this could be a creative way to allow many parties to co-sponsor a core Google Apps module and have sponsor title on a specific sub-module.)
