The default distribution of Commons includes a text block at the top-center of the home page that is useful as a "describe the purpose of this site" type block.
By default, this content area is set to the Input Format "Full HTML". However, due to interactions with the WYSIWYG module, this means that the WYSIWYG editor is launched when a user edits this block. Sadly, the Javascript in Panels and the WYSIWYG editor interact badly, and so it's almost impossible to edit the body of this module.
I recommend:
- Create a new Input Format called "Full HTML no WYSIWYG"
- Set it so that it has no editor
- Set this as the default Input Format for the front page text block.
This makes the block editable, and still preserves the ability to have
