I don't see a big use for the search bar. I would normally see a user in a custom view or click on the masquerade link on a user's profile. Right now the search bar just clutters up my block region. Is there a way to turn off the search bar and just have the switch back link in the block?

Great idea! Right now you could use only ONE "Menu quick switch user"

Suppose block settings(probably checkbox to allow use dropdown in block) could be extended to allow configure visibility of User Search
