Hello Pixture Reloaded,

I have installed drupal for the first time. The first step I took was to install a theme.
When I selected the theme as the default, I logged out of drupal.

Now every page received these errors at the top:

Install the base theme.

Hello Jeff,
Could you please point me to the base theme? Everything I am following is from the existing documentation, however, I might have missed something as there is not an end-to-end tutorial in drupal. I am assuming Pixture Reloaded is for advanced users. I also tried to install Zen theme and it also doesn't work in Drupal 7. I am not sure if Drupal 7 is ready, everything is not working as it is supposed to, but again, I haven't seen anything about a base theme. Any comment you could make is better than what I am able to find now, thank you.

I did look up what a base theme might mean. I installed the theme out-of-the-box and did not make any changes at all. I just tried to install it into Drupal 7. I went into the Appearance section and just set it as the default theme. That was when all the errors popped up.

NOTE: I am an advanced PHP and CSS developer. I really wish that I could even start doing something to develop something. But this drupal thing is like a sub-culture that won't let anyone new in. It is very challenging. I just want to start developing, but I am being very patient trying to get something out-of-the-box work first. The themes that I've installed all have some problem or another and I am okay with that. There just needs and end-to-end tutorial just to accomplish one thing (like TDD methology). Once it is tested and confirmed, then themes could get into more advanced features. But the basics really have to be tied down.

ah, okay.
Right after is says "Important". it says to install "Adaptivetheme" first.

thank you for your patience. I'm sure you've seen this error a hundred times. Propietary solutions are always a long learning curve, drupal needs component tracing.

hence why Drupal is a sub-culture. Most people are scared of Drupal because of this very point. But I was warned of this and expecting this type of treatment so I am fine.

learning drupal, I will make more and more mistakes. I will probably come out beaten, but that is the reputation and I"m ready for it

Dude, lighten up, drop the preconceptions, take it easy, Drupal is a fantastic community and our arms are wide open. No one promised Drupal would be easy, so take more than 19 hours before passing judgment, OK?

Its not like I said RTFM, now that would be rude and I don't condone that sort of reply, and I very much doubt you will get that sort of treatment in this community. What I did do was have a joke at your expense, that's not a criminal act and should not be taken as some sort of indictment on the entire community. It was a lighthearted poke, nothing more nothing less.

I'm in a better mood. The learning curve is blinding. I am still using this theme. It is pretty straightforward, now.

the notes above shows as I tried to create a sub-theme , however, not because the script did not find the 'base theme' but because the "theme initializer" is case sensitive!... when I changed "base theme = Bartik" to "base theme = bartik" its fixed.

because I have read in the documentation the base theme = basetheme/.info [name]/ not folder ;)

The problem occurred for me when I was trying to set my custom sub theme as default theme. The error occured for me because of the typo error.

For the line in info file base theme=bartik i misspelled the base theme name.After correcting the base theme name the error has rectified.

Though it is a old question, posting answer for any one facing the problem.
