going nuts installing 4.7, i have decided to scrap it, and just start all over with version 5. i hadn't yet got to working on themes, i was still installing modules, i guess you could say i went module crazy...its going to be a big community site and might as well switch over now, while it has no content or customization and 5 has not too many modules, so i wont go as nuts. lol. i cant believe i am doing it, but no point in upgrading since there is nothing on it yet. here i go.....

florian’s picture

Your decision shows what a great community Drupal is. You have plenty of modules for Drupal 5.0 to choose from.

Good luck to you ... and Viva Drupal !

Just have to convert my 4.7 site. It won't be too long as my database is just 6Meg large.
Installed 5.0 RC2 and pleased with this new release.
Have fun.
Thank you to the dev team.

Thank you for providing this demo. It helped me see most of the latest features instead of just reading about it or first having to install it.

Would be a great idea for drupal.org to provide a similar service for future releases, at least when there are major changes. CiviCRM has always done this for all its releases.

Dear Drupal,

we have been friends for a long time already.
I am glad that you seem to be healthy and well,
furthermore, I see you getting stronger and stronger each day.

Even though we are parted geographically (I live in Lithuania),
I feel that our bonds are stronger than ever.

Wishing you all the best in your future activities.

Sincerely,
Marius

I see that jQuery also had a birthday. According to http://jquery.com/blog/, jQuery 1.1 was released earlier today.

Is the jQuery 1.1 compressed .js file a safe "drop-in" upgrade to Drupal 5.0 sites?

Thanks!

Southpaw’s picture

I am also wondering the same thing :)

Steven’s picture

If you read the jQuery 1.1 announcement you can see they broke backwards compatibility. There is a 1.0 compatibility plug-in, but it has not been tested with Drupal 5. Stick to jQuery 1.0 for now.

Congratulations and thanks to all involved in this release! It's a big improvement over the 4.x series and well worth the increase to 5.x. I'm certain the web-based install and the new cleaner GUI will lead to a significant increase in the uptake of Drupal.

Congratulations, both on your anniversary and on the new version. I upgraded without any problems. Kudos on this wonderful job :)

Happy Birthday to Drupal, and many thanks to everyone who contributed to the release of 5.0. I had just started building a site on 4.7, but put a hold on it once I played around with RC1 and saw the nice little improvements. I look forward to getting back on track and launching my site soon.

I liked Joomla!'s comment:

Our two projects are often compared, and there is nothing wrong with comparison... but make no mistake of it, we are all on the same side working to enable people... because we both believe that open source matters.

It's good to hear that Joomla! and Drupal are "friends with common goals."

Is there a page somewhere that lists an overview of all of the changes/enhancements/upgrades within 5.0, particulary vis-a-vis 4.7.x? (Something a bit more user-friendly than install notes/change logs included in the tarball, hopefully...)

Thank you.

I had some issues upgrading to 5.0, tried several times over but I always got "Page not found" finally I did the smart thing and checked the log to find out that drupal was looking for /frontpage. So I just restored my db backup again and disabled the frontpage redirect before trying the upgrade again. No problems... In retrospect I realize it might have also worked to simply install the frontpage module for 5.0 before upgrading, but I haven't tried it...

I hope this helps someone aviod the frustration I felt dealing with this problem!

Good luck all!

Install was actually very similar to WP (which I mean as a compliment). I had my site up and running in minutes. I had some issues with a funny host and clean URLs but the support forums here got me up and running fast. I'm so impressed.

I just got my first look at the new Drupal ..... wow .... I'll be up all night playing!

Congratulations, I personally think that the new installer, very organized admin navigation and cleaner look and feel was what Drupal needed to push it far over the edge from other CMS's. It's AWESOME!

I can't wait to upgrade!

I just upgraded to 5.x from 4.7 and am currently looking at the administration page in awe! I still have a lot of work to do before I'll consider putting my site back online, but I had to take the time to congratulate and thank everyone who has worked on this for their great efforts.

This rocks! :)

Laurentvw’s picture

Drupal 5.1 sure looks good, though I had a lot of trouble upgrading from my 4.6 version. And the login doesn't work in IE.
