Hello! I scoured the issue queue, and couldn't find anything similar to my problem, so bear with me if it's a repost, please!

I noticed some odd behavior with the "trim this field..." feature, and I want to see if it's a bug, or just intended behavior. In this example, a view I made is set to trim the title at 45 characters. Here's 3 example entries:

Short Version:

  • "School Suppliers and Education Marketers Get..." - 44 Characters (not including the three dots that make up the ellipsis)
  • "Alex Ain, Expert Marketing Advisor, Joins Haw..." - 45 Characters
  • "Zippo's burning ambition lies in retail..." - 39 Characters

Long Version:

  • "School Suppliers and Education Marketers Get Radio Channel on BAM Radio Network"
  • "Alex Ain, Expert Marketing Advisor, Joins HawkPartners as a Partner in the Cambridge Office"
  • "Zippo's burning ambition lies in retail expansion"
  1. The first one has a space, right after "Get", which gets counted as character, but isn't displayed. Instead the ellipsis is joined immediately after the "Get".
  2. The second one ends in "Haw", from "HawkPartners". In this case, it cut off just right.
  3. The third one seems to have randomly chosen to ignore the final word, opting to trim on a word basis, instead.

Any thoughts?

The space is trimmed off intentionally, because it looks odd to have spaces with the ...

For the 3rd one, are you sure you do not have "trim only on a word boundary" selected?

I WAS sure, until I triple-checked it. :|
