Set up a Windows test server using ZPanel

ZPanel is a free and complete web hosting control panel for Microsoft® Windows™ and Linux based servers.It is written in PHP and uses several open-source (or freely available) software packages to provide a secure, web hosting system.

The installation packages are developed specially for Windows Systems having the last web-server technology like Apache, MySQL and it includes PHP 5.3.10. It also includes PHPMyAdmin which is very useful for dealing with your MySQL databases. In addition ZPanel Team provide the possibility to add more panels as add-ons you can download from Zpanel ADD-ONS page.

The great enhancement is that it include also a Mail server and the possibility to configure (needs some advanced knowledge) a Local DNS server for allow you to work and develop a Drupal site or sites in a complete live-like environment.

To install ZPanel you must run 2 packages:

  1. Download Windows Server Stack
  2. Download the ZPanelX installer for Windows (requires the Windows Server Stack to be installed)
