I am very interested in seeing hierarchical book handling in 7.x-2.x. I'd be willing to help sponsor a patch if anyone is interested.

FYI... It looks like there is a draggableviews hierarchy branch now that is ready for some testing if you want to try it out. You will have to use git to checkout the branch.

Branch w/ native hierarchy handler does work, and the module maintainer is currently working on porting the book handler (I'm sponsoring the project).

Handler implemented and pushed. Welcome to test.

Now on book pages you can see tab Order Outline and there you can reorder the book structure. Also this tab works on any book page that has children.
