I would like the ability to uninstall this replacement category module.
I don't necessarily need the content back, I just want a way to go back to the normal catagory module without removing my whole website and restarting.

Jaza commentedYou must uninstall the book and taxonomy wrapper modules before you uninstall category. Go to 'administer -> content management -> categories -> settings' to uninstall them. Once you do this, book and taxonomy will be restored to their original state, and will no longer be dependent on category. You must also disable any other modules that depend on category (e.g. category_display, category_menu) before you can disable category.

geddon commentedYou'll also need to remove the "category nodes" which were created as these are no longer relevant when simply using Taxonomy.

geddon commentedCORRECTION: This only seemed necessary after I went and removed the category database fields. My other site kept the old categories in place when I left the database alone.
Could someone verify the database fields when can safely be removed after uninstalling the Category module?

hatsch commentedi also need the ability to remove categories module completely,
at the moment the category modules completely blocks my Taxonomy Module.

Farreres commentedThis module inserts some tables in the database, so it can be seen as an usability bug not to have an uninstaller. Drupal 5 expects uninstallers to be available. Please, write one!

madjr commentedmy test site got totally screwed. It was based mostly on book entries. Now all books disapeared from Content management >> books trying to unistall this. Also all my configured outlines and "parents" disapeared.
This module is very useful if you do need the "extras" , but it places your website upside down with an overwhelming amount of changes.
There should be "Warnings" at this modules download page...

forngren commentedI agree with Farreres, please, an uninstaller is badly needed.

tille commentedhello hello,
..just curious: does #10 and #11 acually mean, that de-insalling category module now works fine (with the dev-version)..? ..that would make me install it right away - again..:]

tille commentedagain - sorry - of course I wanted to ask about "uninstalling" - not "de-insalling"..:]
just wanted to add that I - and I think also a lot of other people would be quite glad to see this happening.. I tried category once and was overwhelmed by the almost endless opportunities - and the only thing that keeps me from installing and using it here and there and everywhere is actually the lack of an option to uninstall it.. - ..well - thank you in advance for this upcoming feature..!
