assign userpoints based on fields in cck

I'd like to create a module to assign userpoints based on fields that are filled out in a cck based user profile.

Members would receive userpoints from selecting from a dropdown list or checking a checkbox. They would receive a different number of points based on their choices. For example, based on the type of vehicle they drive, they get 0 points if gasoline, 25 points if hybrid, 50 points if biodiesel, and 100 if electric.

I will gladly write the module, just looking for some pointers in how to do this with the new api.
