I'm not really that familiar with Ubercart and its submodules and I'm currently trying to set up the "Discount Coupon Purchase" submodule.

I'm sure this issue must have come up at some time but I have searched high and low and not found any mention.

As far as I can see, a purchasable coupon requires an associated product so that it can be purchased.

Coupon value is currently taken from the value entered under "Discount Value" for the base coupon and the "Sell Price" entered in the product definition or from a selected product attribute is totally ignored.

If the "Discount Value" set in the base coupon definition is not the same as the Sell Price or selected Option Price for the associated product (as reported in the cart), the value of the purchased coupon will differ from the coupon price reported in the cart and paid for at checkout.

This means that if a range of coupon values is desired/required, a separate base coupon definition and a product entry has to be created for each of the desired coupon amounts and the administrator has to be careful to enter the same dollar value for each.

Can the base coupon definition be modified so that, for purchasable coupons, it can be set to pick up the coupon dollar value from either the product Sell Price or selectable option price rather than being forced to use the "Discount Value" field of the coupon definition?

This would make the setting up and maintenance of purchasable coupons of selectable value much easier.

This would make it impossible to sell a coupon for a price that differed from its redemption value. The value of a coupon and its price are different concepts, and I think they should be kept separate. However, I'll leave this open for a bit longer in case someone else has a different opinion.

This is actually a feature that would be useful. I can't think of a reason that you'd sell a coupon for a different price than the coupon's value. Generally, you'd use the coupon in this way as a gift certificate. If you could tie the discount amount to the attribute sell price, then you'd only need one product for a range of coupon values.

If you really wanted the coupon value to be different than the purchase price, tie it to cost, and make the price different.
