Hi! I just encountered this issue and not sure if this is already existing since I use Firefox more often but the CKEditor freezes on IE when I try to click the "Source" icon. See the red encircled item on the attached file for reference. We have two installation of Drupal on different servers and both seems to have issues on IE. Anyone experiencing it as well? Any feedback will be very much appreciated. Thanks!

With which version of IE do you have this problem ? Are there any js errors ?. Please write which modules are installed in your drupal. Is this problem occurs with latest CKEditor release (6.x-1.2 or Dev) ?

Hi. Any update? I'm still having issues even when I upgraded on the latest version.

Thanks!

Hi, @lizac you can check if there are javascript errors in IE by looking at left bottom corner of browser window (if there are errors there will be one icon and some text with information that errors occured). You can also check in server logs if there are errors, but in this case I think this is related with js.
Please try if your problem occurs on demo page http://ckeditor.com/demo. If not please install latest drupal dev release and check it. If last step doesn't help please check if this is not related with some of module installed in your drupal.

I tested it with IE7, IE8 and IE9 - everything works... So it's probably problem with one of the modules that u have installed. Try to disable all other modules and try does it help... If yes enabled one module and check, then we will know where is problem and where to find the problem...

Greetings

hello. I tried all your suggestions on #3 except for

1. you can check if there are javascript errors in IE by looking at left bottom corner of browser window (if there are errors there will be one icon and some text with information that errors occured). - I did not find any actually. I even installed the IE Developer tool but did not find any error.

2. You can also check in server logs if there are errors, but in this case I think this is related with js. - unfortunately, no errors on logs.

3. Please try if your problem occurs on demo page http://ckeditor.com/demo. - I tried it on IE9 and I have no issues when I tried to click the Source and edit the content there.

4. If not please install latest drupal dev release and check it. - are you pertaining to the Drupal Core?Just verifying.

5. If last step doesn't help please check if this is not related with some of module installed in your drupal. - I disabled all contributed modules but the problem remains the same. The source remained freeze. =(

* I've also tried disabling/enabling the module. But haven't tried uninstalling it.
* I've tried it in my sister's laptop that is still using IE 8 and the I can edit from there. Argh...

Any other input will be very much appreciated.

by the way, I'm using IE9 and Windows 7 Home when I try to edit the content. In IE9, it text area freeze.

@lizac about point 4 I am thinking about latest dev (or 6.x-1.3 ) release of CKEditor module.
I also check this issue on IE9 on Windows 7 Home and can't reproduce this.

dczepierga’s picture

@lizac, which theme do u use? Maybe it's problem with CSS or sth like that...

Greetings

@michal_cksource. I already updated the module to 1.3 but the issue is still there. We have two machines that is Windows 7 Home Premium, 64Bit and IE9 and both of them freezes when "Source" from CKeditor is clicked. But not when we try to "Switch to plain text editor".

I have three people tried editing one of our content, they are all using IE8 and they have no issues.

@dczepierga. We have our custom theme but I'm not sure if it's related since we have that theme ever since. It's only now that we have issues on this. If it's the theme's css. How do I check what causes the error? I've already switched the theme to use Garland but it still freezes.

Now, I'm thinking this can be an isolated issue on IE9. I have disabled all plugins in my IE browser and yet no success. Good thing, editing using other browsers is working.

is it safe to say that I'll just wait for it to correct itself?... =)

Hi, @lizac can you try use CKEditor module on other (new/fresh) drupal installation. Please try it on your localhost and check if this issue still occurs ?

lizac’s picture

@michal_cksource. I've tried CKEditor 6.x-1.3 in a new fresh drupal installation in my local. The CKEditor worked and it did not freeze when I try to edit it via "Source".

mkesicki’s picture

Hi,
@lizac so as you see this is bug/issue is hard to reproduce. You should try find differences between you local fresh installation and first installation where problem occurs. Of course you should install the same modules on both installations.

lizac’s picture

for now, we have decided to revert our IE version to 8.0. We have no issues now.
I'll let you know once we find out the solutions.

hi dczepierga! I just checked my IE9 today and now everything works as it should be. I don't know what solved the issue actually as I was not able to track any update on the website. I think reporting that it works now is not that helpful because the real cause and fix has not been recognized. Anyways,I just thought you might want also to know it....

Thanks all for your assistance.
