With this patch you can enable betterselect per vocabulary.

settings can be found on within each taxonomy http://www.example.com/admin/content/taxonomy/edit/vocabulary/1 - it may be better to put them on the better select settings page.

Is this meant to be only for node/edit pages OR also exposed filters using the particular vocabulary?

I thought about this, but could not remember why I decided against it :)

As far as I remember this should work for all forms with taxonomy options (make sure to untick "Node form only").
