Our Terminology page does not include all Drupal-specific terms and usage. In editing the module documentation page for Trigger #1113554: Finish editing of D7 core module page for Trigger , I wanted to link to (or at least read) the terminology definitions supporting the meaning of Trigger and Action in the context of Drupal, but did not find them defined on the terminology page.
I didn't do an inventory, so I'm not sure if there are other entries that should be added. I'll start a list here:
- Action
- Trigger
- render arrays (aka structured array)
- element
- Entity
- verb form of 'theme'
- preprocess / process / alter operations
- install profile
- cache file
- User1 or User 1
If any additional terms are identified as missing, they can be added to this issue.

jjkd commentedAdditional suggestions for the Terminology page as scraped from the page comments:
Cache files

I suggest "cache file" be added here, and what cache files are used for, where they are, what they are named be explained.
User1
Posted by uNeedStuff on October 18, 2010 at 8:59pm
User1 should be added to this list as it's referenced everywhere in the documentation.
User1 the 1st user created on installation and granted additional (all) permissions. This user is now referred to as the site maintenance account in Version 7 and above.

Grammatical error

I am pretty sure there is a grammatical error in sentence "A URL is the add [..]." "An URL [..]" should be instead.

arianek commentedadding novice tag, as some of these would be good novice tasks
Comment #3
jjkd commentedNote that the page in question is not open for editing except by (I presume) docs admins. I can't edit it, so the average novice probably can't either. So, perhaps we'll need a workflow that includes proposed changes and new entries submitted as comments on the issue, which someone will need to consolidate and then make the changes to the page.

silverwing commentedI changed the input format to filtered so the page can be edited. Just please respect the formatting/structure of the page!
Carolyn commentedInstall profile could be added. RDF and WAI-ARIA could go in the next section on Acronyms and expressions used on Drupal.org
.
batigolixWe now refer to the terminology page as the glossary.
In case you report missing terms, feel free to suggest a definition.

lomo commented(A bit off-topic, but just to help keep the grammar of Drupal docs correct...)
Actually, not all words (or acronyms) beginning in a vowel use "an" as the article. This is a case where "a" is correct; other examples: a university, a unit, a universe, a eulogy, a European ... all of these have a "y" sound and it's that consonant sound which determines that "a" comes before the word. Similarly, some words begin with an 'h' which is not voiced, so "an hour", "an honor", etc. For those interested in this somewhat trivial EFL (English as a Foreign Language) topic, this might clarify things a bit further:

leehunter commentedJust a note for anyone working with glossary terms. In the heading, please write the term heading in lower case if it's a lower case term. For example, write "install profile" not "Install profile" or "Install Profile".
Using the actual case of the term (as opposed to using the title case) gives the reader additional information about how the word should be written and whether it might be the name of a product or just a technical term. It's also the near-universal convention for glossaries and dictionaries.

Paul Simard commentedRolled suggested terms from comments into Issue Summary. Also, corrected caps on items, except where there's a module with item name.

tom_o_t commentedI just added API.
It would be worth adding widget.

mrienstra commentedhttp://drupal.org/glossary#roles
Last sentence is incomplete -- change to "Drupal allows creating additional roles." or something to that effect.
http://drupal.org/glossary#term
This definition links to a non-existence 'tags' term. Either add the 'tags' term, or remove the link.

jhodgdonThe glossary page is open for anyone to edit. If you find problems, please just use the time to edit the page and fix them rather than reporting them here. Thanks!
It would be great if someone could go through this issue and:
a) See if there are any proposed edits here.
b) Make those edits (if they make sense).
c) Mark this issue "fixed" (with a comment saying they've made the edits).
Thanks!
