I have found mentions around the web of admins of sites using latest versions of the Privatemsg module can mail all the users or at least all the members of a user type... can someone please publish a simple guide to the method?

Sadly Mr Google and I can't find the 'idiots guide' that I seem to need this morning.

Make sure you're using Privatemsg 6.x-2.x, enable the privatemsg_roles module and then send a message to any role you want. The "authenticated user" role includes all users on your site.
