we have a custom login page that doesn't live at /user/login, and I wanted to redirect users there. A simple patch is attached to add the option on the administration form and then have the redirect code respect it when looking for where to go.

nice, I just wanted to push the same patch :)

Only one thing: inside of the description is written: "leave blank for the default access denied page.", which is wrong!
it should be: "leave blank for the default login page (user/login)."

And by the way, patch also works for D7
