Disable Individual Node Edit By Role

I am trying to find a way to disable editing by specific roles of specific nodes (not node types).

The goal is to allow a user to create a node, edit it, and so on but have a way for an administrator or authorized role to disable their ability to edit that individual node.

Here is an example:

1. User creates a story node.
2. User edits their story node.
3. Administrator / Moderator wants to keep their story node visible, but stop them from editing that story node any further.
4. User receives an access denied when trying to edit his story node, but the node still has his name and is still publicly visible.

I could not find any modules that perform this way, so I am wondering if there is such functionality built in? Any thoughts on the best way to accomplish this?
