OG menu tries to set menu parent for new nodes to the top of the group menu.
However it still does this when editing an existing node, and so changes the menu parent when it shouldn't.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Create a new group post (as a user with admin og menus, but without admin menus)
2. Add a menu item for the node (several levels deep)
3. Edit the node.
4. Observe that menu item parent has been reset to top of the group menu

Closing, since the Drupal 6 version of OG Menu is no longer supported. If this issue is still relevant for the currently supported versions (D7 and D8) then feel free to update the version and reopen the issue.
