Hello-

I'm getting ready to move out of a resellers account and into a dedicated server environment. This is new territory for me, but ground I'm ready to traverse.

For hardware I'm looking at softlayer.com (dual processor, single-core)
For set-up, support/monitoring I'm looking at platinumservermanagement.com

Basically a LAMP set-up with cPanel and - I think - WHM.

Any recommendations, advise, information regarding this "territory" is much appreciated.

Hello Doug,

I'd recommend you check out http://www.rimuhosting.com, which is the hosting service I use. You will likely find that one of their VPS (virtual private server) plans suits your needs, for far less expense than a dedicated server. Or, they can provide a dedicated server. I am on their minimum VPS plan ($20/mo.) and the performance is far better than I got under my previous shared hosting. A Rimuhosting VPS is still essentially 1/10 (and up) of a dedicated server, but this is still a huge step up from typical shared hosting, which gives you about 1/250 of the server.

These Rimuhosting guys (based in New Zealand but with servers in the US and the UK) give great, expert service and can help you set up most anything.
