After a recent upgrade to D6, users with "moderator" and other privileged roles no longer see the various "Administer" navigation items they have permissions to access.

A user with a given role CAN access the admin pages they have permissions for (e.g., "moderators" can access http://example.com/admin/content/comment/new ). But these administration menu items don't show up on their navigation menu.

All the admin navigation menu items appear fine for user 0; and the non-admin items on the navigation menu are displayed for everyone.

I have searched high and low and can't find any reason this should be. I am certain I've done something dumb or am missing some small detail - but find myself stumped. Any advice or ideas would be very welcome.

Under system module - access administration pages check the box to give this permission to the roles you want to see those admin pages... downside....they can navigate to other pages you might not want them to see.
