Trouble installing EasyFilter module

joiv - January 23, 2007 - 20:36

I'm trying to install EasyFilter 5.x-1.7 on Drupal 5.0. (EasyFilter:
http://drupal.org/project/easyfilter). I have uploaded it to
sites/all/modules/. It doesn't appear in the administer > site building >
modules section in drupal. I have searched the forum and googled it to find out more, but haven't become any wiser. Maybe I'm just too noob, but I really can't get it to appear so that I can enable it. Obviously there is a working version on www.travistidwell.com.

The module file easyfilter.module is in sites/all/modules/easyfilter/. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Hey, I am trying to figure

travist - January 26, 2007 - 20:35

Hey,

I am trying to figure out why this isn't showing... my site www.travistidwell.com was a fresh installation with Drupal 5.0, and it shows up just fine. With version 1.7, I did move the installation out of the "Drupal - Core Optional" into the "Other" category. Maybe this category is minimized.

Which Drupal 5.0 release are you using (RC1, RC2, beta?)

I didn't know there were

joiv - January 26, 2007 - 23:04

I didn't know there were different versions of Drupal 5.0. How can I find out which one I have? (I downloaded the latest release linked to from the frontpage: http://ftp.osuosl.org/pub/drupal/files/projects/drupal-5.0.tar.gz - you may perhaps know which release it is then.)

These are the modules which I have uploaded: http://frisksomenfisk.com/modules_uploaded.png (you can see easyfilter there)

These are the modules showing up in the "Other" category: http://frisksomenfisk.com/modules_in_other.png (no easyfilter module)

I'm really looking forward to trying this module. It seems to be a very efficient navigation tool.

Thanks for looking into this.

Ok, I just found the

travist - January 26, 2007 - 23:55

Ok, I just found the problem... When updating the module, I forgot to include the *.info file so that Drupal can recognize it. I just released a version 1.8 that should have all the necessary files for Drupal to see the module.

Please let me know if you have any more problems. And enjoy the module!

Thanks,

Travis

Easyfilter 1.8 uploaded and

joiv - January 27, 2007 - 10:30

Easyfilter 1.8 uploaded and enabled.

I can't get the filter showing up above the posts as on your page. It just says 'no articles found'. Do you know why that might be?

Settings for EasyFilter:

All articles on page: (of content type article=story)

When clicking the menu item made by easyfilter:

Thanks for your help. This filter will be a major part of the navigation on my site.

Try this...

I noticed on your page that you don't have any categories defined for that node type. When I designed the easyfilter, I only designed it to work when you have some categories defined for that module. I will work on fixing this sometime this weekend, but in the meantime, you can probably get it to work by defining some Categories for that node type. Here is how to do this...

  • First, sign in as administrator
  • Click on the Administrator menu item.
  • Click on Categories
  • Click on the tab that says Add Vocabulary
  • Then add a vocabulary that you will use for your articles. For example, if you are writing articles like a newspaper, you might want to categorize your buisness articles from your sports articles. So, in this example, you would create a vocabulary called "Section" ....
  • When you are creating the vocabulary term, you will be required to select a node type that this category will be describing. In your case, select the "Article" node type
  • Now you need to create some terms to go into that vocabulary "Section". You do this by clicking on the link next to your vocabulary that says "Add Terms". Here is where you will put the specific sections that you will be categorizing your articles by... In my example, I would create terms like... Sports, Buisness, Community, Finance, etc. Each one of these terms then break up the Section vocabulary into the "Sports Section", or the "Buisness Section" of your newspaper
  • Now, go and edit each one of your examples. You should see a Categories appear in the editing that will allow you to select which category each one of your articles falls under
  • Now try the easyfilter, and let me know if it doesn't work
  • Again, I will try to fix the easyfilter to where it works without vocabulary terms this weekend. I hope ths helps.

I had one

I had one category...

...with two terms:
sykdom
vitamin d

Now I have two categories and four articles. Still nothing showing up under the menu item generated by easyfilter.

I will temporarily give you

travist - January 28, 2007 - 03:15

I will temporarily give you administrative privilages to my website www.travistidwell.com... The only thing that I am currently using that website for is debugging the EasyFilter. You are more than welcome to compare what my settings are to what you have on your site. I will have some time to work on fixing your problem tomorrow, and it will help to get some feedback as to what might be causing this problem. Thank you for being patient as I iron out all the bugs.

I doesn't seem to work with

joiv - January 28, 2007 - 13:50

I doesn't seem to work with stories, only pages. Thanks for all help. It works! :D

Could you make it possible to select more than one term within a vocabulary?

And make it work for stories also?

And make hierarchical sorting of terms in dropdown menues?

Do you know which documents that contain the information regarding the appearance of tabs?

I will try to work on some

travist - January 28, 2007 - 18:36

I will try to work on some of those things this weekend. Please submit your wishlist under the issues for the EasyFilter, so that I can easily keep track of what has been done, and what hasn't.

Thanks for being patient.

After playing around with

travist - January 28, 2007 - 20:50

After playing around with the filter, it seems to be working how it should. I was able to get it working with both stories and pages on my website. I tested it with Multitagging, and other forms of tagging and that also seems to work. The only thing that I did find is when you filter two terms in a single vocabulary in the path, the tab filter will only show the last term within that category as selected. When I designed the easyfilter, i didn't think about people wanting more than two terms within a vocabulary. Even though it is possible to do this in the url, the actual filter will only let you select one term at a time. I will see if I can figure a way of visually letting the user select more than one. But, as for the EasyFilter, I believe it is working how I imagined it to work. Let me know if you still have problems with it.

Thanks,

Travis.
