In version 4.7 there was a core statistics module, but I can't find it in 5.0. Is that module still in development or is it discontinued?

It's still there, under Core - optional.

It's still part of the drupal tar ball (eg. 5.0). It can be found in .../modules/statistics and in the list of modules in the Web UI.

Thank you very much & sorry for asking.
I was looking for it in modules and I couldn't find it. Now I looked again and there it was!?
Gosh, I was sure that it was not there.

...oh well, thank you very much for pointing it out!

Well don't feel bad. I see the module under /modules/ but I don't see it listed in the Administration Panel. I've looked all over and the only things listed are some addon modules and "Color".

Any ideas?

I had moved all my old modules from 4.7.x to /modules/old so that I could reference them for future edits and once removed, the modules reappeared.
