Hi, I'm more and more inclined to give Drupal a try for a website I am planning. It is rather simple and I think Drupal would be an overkill. I would rather go with Slashcode but install / in a shared environment is a pain as it requires changes in the system.

My choice of Drupal would depend on the following:

1. discussions (for a story for example) I noticed are threaded. Is it possible to rank/score user comments (ala Slashcode)

2. can features like blog be completely turned off? There are several free blogging services available and hence I don't feel a need for it on the website.

3. is it possible that users or anonymous visitors can post a story on the website, but it only goes live after an editor OKs it?

4. How does Drupal respond to scalability? more specifically how do memory and space requirements change with increasing size of a Drupal based website?

Thanks

I'm new to Drupal myself, but I'm enjoying learning all the things I can do with it and all the ways I can customize it. Check out the list of Drupal modules to see what functionality you can add.

  1. There are several voting modules available:
  2. The blog module comes with a plain-vanilla install of Drupal, but you can disable it.
  3. Just look at the "publishing options" available. See forums posts here and here if you'd like some more commentary. There are also extra modules you can install that are related to moderation:
  4. Like I said, I've just started using Drupal myself, so I'll let other users answer your scalability question.

Good luck!

Thanks. So the features are there it seems. It might be only a matter of finding the modules if other features are required.
