If you are new to Drupal, want to know how to configure a site or just learn what features are in Drupal, you might want to take a look at the screencast made by Robert Safuto of Awakened Voice.

It is a 22 minute long tour of Drupal 5 (QuickTime, 22 min, 77 MB) that shows off the installation, the configuration and how to build a nice rich media site with for example podcasting.

If you want to play with a local install on for example your Windows machine, grab a copy of the latest version of Drupal, read how to install it on Windows box and play with it.

Once you have seen the light, you can help others or ask for help in the forums and start to contribute for Drupal. Welcome aboard, Bon voyage!

I have downloaded the video. Ok. When i want to play it with Quicktime 7.1.3, the video looks like this

...Falu...

The version I downloaded did not look like that, maybe try a different link ?

Many thanks for the video, it certainly was very useful considering i'm a newbie around here :)

A little off topic, i love your music site - musicbuggy.com

I plan to start my own music archive site with tracks that can be streamed for out of print or rare sounds. Do you plan to do some tutorials on how the musicbuggy.com was developed?

Is most of what is required already in the audio module?

I did notice that there was only one track available to play for each artist? But can multiple tracks be added with the audio module?

Sorry for going off-topic but musicbuggy.com really got me excited about the possibly on offer with Drupal.

thanks,

Anonymous’s picture

Thanks. I would love to do lots more tutorials, including ones that show what I've done on music buggy. Time may not be on my side in the very near future but I'm excited that the community enjoys this content so I definitely will do more.

MusicBuggy makes heavy use of the Audio and Playlist modules. You can add lots of tracks. I have set it up so each artist can upload up to three tracks but there is no limit to the number of tracks you can add.

That sounds great and i hope to see the tutorial on musicbuggy when you have the time. From what you said, i will go away and learn these modules.

Personally, i think good tutorials likes yours are just as important as coding to the community because you are in effect spreading the use of Drupal more by showing us how things can be done so many thanks for your time and efforts.

I appreciate people taking the time to learn from the content. I can't code a lick so this is the least I can do to give back to the community.

I cant watch your video.

Mplayer on my Linux system tells:
".. MPlayer interrupted by signal 6 in module: decode_video .."

And QuickTime on my Windows (ME) tells something as:
"depends on an other non existing program, not found on this the most updated version.."

BUT, I saw something on google-video..

And saw things as how the admin changed colors of the banner?
(BUT, the 5.0-rc version I locally installed during Christmas cant do that..)

And why are there no other theme-engine? Isn't "Smarty" something to continue on??

And, is hype always good

There are much better ways to represent a tutorial. Flash would be best becuase of its interactivity, try Macromedia Captivate, much better and lighter than .mov!!!

i'm glad you volunteered yourself to make an interactive flash drupal presentation. good luck.

untill then STFU and say thank you for the great effort put into making the presentation.

Sometimes something interesting appears on http://litwol.com

jeb@drupal.org’s picture

heh, this is such a typical drupal comment.

If something doesn't work, or could be improved, "Don't complain! Just be glad you got anything."

"And If you don't like it, make a better one."

Criticism can be helpful guys. I actually appreciate those comments instead of the "ohhh, thank you! you're wonderful. pat yourself on the back."

btw, there is a windows app called "BB FLASHBACK". It records screencasts and outputs them to flash (swf). I was exporting them at the highest possible size/quality and it was about 10MB for a 5minute screencast.

it's a great way to demo things. (i've used it to demo to a non-techies on how to use their drupal site.)

And this is a typical response from a new account. There are so many reasons to have created an account on Drupal.org yet you chose this one as why you created an account.

As neither you nor the other did the original video yet only posted to find fault with it, the rest of the community awaits your implementation of a 'better' way to do things. That's the joy of a volunteer community.

BB FLASHBACK costs $199

Try CAMStudio the Free Streaming Video Software http://www.camstudio.org/
Completely 100% free

CamStudio is able to record all screen and audio activity on your computer and create industry-standard AVI video files and using its built-in SWF Producer can turn those AVIs into lean, mean, bandwidth-friendly Streaming Flash videos (SWFs)

Not as versatile as BB flashback, but free.

I recommend also taking a look at Wink, if you're interested in producing Flash (interactive or otherwise) presentations:
http://www.debugmode.com/wink/

It's very lightweight and well-designed. It's freeware. It's also portable. You can pop it on a USB drive or move it from system to system without having to install it.

Yes, nowadays, flash formatted video are more preferred. Most video sharing websites are using it. Anyway, thanks for your video tutorial, really useful to me.

Quality at Google Video is awful or you must see it so tiny you will need a magnifier :)

Can anyone point me towards a video about installing Drupal 6 on XAMPP?

I have found one video, but it assumes I am using Apple, and a remote server. In fact, I'm trying to instal on a Word machine, using XAMPP.

Many thanks,

Mark
