Not thouroughly tested but someone could use this as a baseline for a 5.0 install.
Here is a patch that creates the .info file and makes a couple changes to the module. No functionality changes.

Any progress on this. I would like to upgrade my site to 8.1 soon.

You can try my patch - it seemed to work. Sorry I don't have CVS access.

Try out the HEAD version http://drupal.org/node/95420, it should work with Drupal 5.
