Set download method to private in
admin/settings/file-system
No preview will be shown, though the thumbnail does gets created

Private file transfers are really broken at the moment as per chx in IRC. I don't intend to fix it for core nor use any workarounds in this module.

If you change your mind in any moment, let us know!
I have the download method set to private because the "download count" required it :(
