Issue Summary
Hi
I installed the module, set myself as an affiliate, got someone else to register and saw that they "belonged" to me. Then, as I thought it was all working, I forgot about it and installed more stuff. Now when I go back I'm no longer an affiliate. When I reset myself I stay as an affiliate for a while and then I revert to NOT being an affiliate.
I cannot work out what triggers the affiliate being reverted.
Also, clicks are not being registered.
Please help

Maybe I can precise Debs observation a little as I seem to have somewhat a similar if not alike problem:
We're running http://www.cooking-cup.de - a German hobby chef cooking contest that is sponsored by several brands and industry partners.
Okay, every brand has an own user account and is marked as affilate to be able to track inbound links from these partners and see, which Cooking Cup contestant was brought in by which brand/partner.
I have observed the following:
1. I set up my user accounts of all the partners / brands.
2. I went to admin/affiliate and added each partner by clicking on the "edit affilate settings for", selecting the first partner at random and switching on the affiliate status for this partner.
3. I continued doing so for the rest of the partners / brands.
What happened now is:
The first affiliate partner was listed quite regularly. Every FOLLOWING partner however was ADDED as user to the FIRST affiliate!
I guess this must be some problem with the altered forms on the user edit page itself, because the first affiliate seemed to default in the dropdown and not the empty value!
So I went through each affiliate one by one again and - in the user editing page - switched from the first affiliate in the drop down back to the empty value field.
What happened next: every affiliate I edited disappeared on the admin/affiliate list because obviously the "deactivated" radio button on the "Affiliate Details" page (on user/UID/edit/affiliate ) seems to be the default and if anything gets changed in the "Account Settings" page (on user/UID/edit ).
I guess this could easily be corrected.
In the meantime: when editing users and you have the rights to administer affiliates, when chaninging anything on user/UID/edit make sure you go to user/UID/edit/affiliate and SWITCH BACK ON the affiliate status!
I hope I could help - both Debs and everybody else for a workaround - as well as to the maintainer of the otherwise superb Affiliate Module to help get this corrected!
Cheers, Steve.

BTW: the affiliate status is not reset to off if a user with NO affiliate administration rights changes his or her own user account. It only happens if - due to access rights - the user/UID/edit/affiliate link is visible!

thanks Steve, at least I'm not going mad ;-) I'll use your workaround
any idea about the clicks being registered? are they on your site?
