Mad Mike@mikes-... - January 25, 2007 - 19:36

I need user database integration with MyBB with my site, and wondering if there are any modules for doing so. If not, I would likesome assistance on how to develop such a module of how to synchronise the MyBB database user tables with Drupal's.

There is no bridge for MyBB

VeryMisunderstood - January 25, 2007 - 19:43

There is no bridge for MyBB in the downloads area.

There are however others. Reverse engineering one of those may help ?

I have the same problem. I need myBB because of the better rights management and other functions. It will become a bigger webproject, so I wonder if I can get an integrated solution.
Will there be a port for myBB? mike/salzburg

2 options

hire someone to build a bridge, who has the time to install the MyBB script, investigate the script, and write the bridge. Consultants found here: drupal.org/drupal-services

post over at MyBB and see if anyone these is interested that would want to learn Drupal.

The only other option would be to wait until someone else needs this that will do the work free of charge. This option can take much longer than a few months.

Thanks for your reply mate.

MGadAllah - April 3, 2008 - 19:56

Thanks for your reply mate. I am new to the websites world and after a lot of search I've found that drupal does win when it comes to a long run website. Regarding which forum software to be used, I know that phpbb is the most widely used board, but really not that secured while it is the most widely used one. This was the main reason for searching for another one, and I've tried MyBB since the 1.2.8 and it is really nice and the coming 1.4 seems rock. I've realized that if I want to have a good working website that I have to know about php html css.
So after a lot of search I've found that no one interested to do it even for money and I've decided to do it in my own, but I am just do not know how to start?
If you have a few minutes to tell me the way to go it would be so nice of you. I mean the starting point to learn those things php html and css (do I need to learn any thing else if I want to do such a bridge?) and then how to know or learn how does mybb working.
One last thing ... am I right when I picked MyBB or there is another free forum software that could be better to be used with Drupal.
Thanks and much appreciated.

If it were me the fist thing that I would investigate is I'd reverse engineer anothe bridge in the downloads area. Either the one for phpbb or gallery2 something of the sort to get a grip with how the two seperate scripts must communicate to work correctly.

This will only give you insight. The next step would be to have an undestanding how the forum scipt you are dicussing works.

bridging is not for the faint of heart. You will need a good understanding of how both scripts work in order to write a script to sit between both scripts and sync databases with regards to sessions and such.

If this is your first php type project you may be on a long hard road of trial and error.

I do not use 3rd party forum scipts I find the forum.module in Drupal perfectly suitable in most cases. Somtimes I leave it stock, sometimes I add a few modules to the forum. To be thoroughly honest I find full featured forum scripts bloated.

good luck with your endeavors.

[*]Apress.Building.Online.Communities.with.Drupal.phpBB.and.WordPress.2006.pdf.
[*]Apress.Pro.Drupal.Development.Apr.2007.pdf.
[*]Developing For Drupal.pdf.
[*]Drupal 5 Themes.pdf.

VeryMisunderstood - April 4, 2008 - 12:28

Pro Drupal Dev is a good book to read.

api.drupal.org is a great reference for Drupal functions as well.

These two:
[*]6966346-Packt.Publishing.Drupal.Creating.Blogs.Forums.Portals.and.Community.Websites.Apr.2006.pdf.
[*]Apress.Building.Online.Communities.with.Drupal.phpBB.and.WordPress.2006.pdf.

are a bit dated and were written for versions of Drupal prior to 5.x. As such I don't know how much of the information in them still apply.

MGadAllah - April 18, 2008 - 08:36

I've found some not-finished work for integration for MyBB and Drupal. It is HERE for another member that no longer interested to use or update it and I contacted him and he said that it is ok if any one can continue the project. but not to remove the copy right.
Please any one interested to continue such a thing because I am really do not want to use phpBB with Drupal and want to use MyBB instead.
Honestly I've tried to work with it but really was not able to figure it out

After MyBB changed their licence from proprietary to GPL v3 I looked into its code and decided to make bridge to Drupal. Work in progress. Suggestions and sponsoring are welcome.
