User search tab returns user to content search tab

Description
Drupal 5.0: when on the search page and on the Users tab to do a user-specific search (http://yoursitenamehere.com/search/user/) , enter a user name to search for, click on search. The user is returned to the content tab and has to click again on the Users tab to see the results of the user-specific search. Happens regardless of browser version (tested with browsers Mozilla 2.0.0.1 and IE 6.0)
Turns out this bug is occurring in other themes as well so isn't a specific theme issue. It is happening on the drupal.org bluebeach theme also.

Just noting that I'm having the same issue. If someone pointed me in the right direction (ie. file?) I could probably look into it and put a patch together.
