I spotted a few minor errors in the IT.po file and corrected them. The wrong strings still get used, though, even if I cleared the cache a couple of times. What do I need to do to get Weather module to re-read the translation file?

You need to disable and uninstall the module. If you enable it again, the transations will be read. Note that your confuguration will get lost this way.
