I recently watched a demo screencast[1] for the NodeStream distribution in which node reference fields also had the ability to pop a second modal dialog to allow for in-place creation of the referred-to content. I can't seem to find anything replicating this for Drupal 7, though this module seems to be what will end up replacing that v6 implementation. Are there plans to replicate that function here? (Or if I'm just not finding an extant module, I would really appreciate a link.)

I also checked Node Connect and Node Reference Create.

Thanks jcarlson34 for the tip on Node Connect. It's pretty close to what I want. The only thing that might be better would be some way of the referenced node entry being inserted to the referring node edit form as a subform. I think there were D5 and D6 modules to do this type of thing, but nothing I've found for D7 yet. Maybe the Node Connect author would consider a feature like this... I think I'll head over there to ask.
