Description

Is there a port to Drupal 5 planned? This is an excellent module and I don't see anything else like it for 5. Thanks

While the version found at http://drupal.org/node/105530 that drewish has out there certainly works on 5.x (many, many thanks to drewish), it appears to lack the image caption feature. Any word on when this version will be ready for 5.x?

i doubt it's going to be updated. your probably better off putting in feature requests for the one that's included with the image module.

I do eventually plan to port this to Drupal 5, but I'm currently deep into porting another module that has a broader user base. I'm sorry for the delay; I work very long hours at my paying job, and that limits how much time I have for Drupal coding as a hobby.

hey, syscrusher, you should really look at just contributing features to the image_import module that's bundled with the image module. i've got commit on the image module now and i'd love to cut down on duplicated modules.

Hi, drewish!

If the bundled image_import module does the same kind of import as this one, then I'd be just as happy to merge this one into it and/or deprecate this one entirely. I have started using AcidFree myself, so I am maintaining this one only because of user demand.

Let's open it for comments: Users of image_import (mine), what do you think about deprecating this module in favor of the one built into the main "image" module?

i haven't actually used yours but from what i've read on the project page, the one i wrote is missing several cool features:

# Unlike previous image import code, this module can do a "fast import" while also individually captioning images. For each image being imported, the module looks for a file whose name matches but whose extension is one of several recognized as text or HTML. If found, that file's contents will be used to automatically create a teaser and body (description) for the image.
# To support systems where users have individual upload directories, the module can be configured to insert the Drupal username into the import directory path. It can also optionally *not* do this for the special case of the system user (uid=1). There is also a way to have the module remove spaces from the usernames.
# Users with appropriate permissions, as defined by the site owner, can override the import path for their images.

I think it only makes sense to keep all of these related image functions as part of the image module. I'd love to see the individual captioning feature make it's way into the image_import again though.

bang_logic, perhaps the best way to proceed would be to open feature requests in the image module's issue queue for the image_import component. i've never used syscrusher's import module so if you could include a detailed description of how it should work and possibly a screen shot, that'd be great.

Okay drewish, I've generated a new Issue in the Image module queue. Sorry, I can't provide screen prints and the like. I only knew this functionality existed in the previous Image_Import module through the Read Me and message boards. Famous last words but... "It doesn't seem it would be that hard to implement." (this from a man with no php skills.) Thanks.
