Would it be possible to use a quickstart image with more than one processor? Right now trying to change that results in :
Result Code:
NS_ERROR_FAILURE (0x80004005)
Component:
Console
Interface:
IConsole {6375231a-c17c-464b-92cb-ae9e128d71c3}
Setting it to one processor makes everything ok. It is not so much a problem on linux but on window running it on one processor is not possible, it keeps locking all the time.

MichaelCole commentedHi Domidc, I'd love this too.
It's a bug with Virtualbox. I havn't had time to create a good bug report. If you file one, paste a link here so people can "me too" without creating duplicates.
It's also possible it will be fixed in Ubuntu 11.04. I havn't noticed it as a problem except during profile building and installation. So slow!
Marking as postponed so it stays "up", but there isn't anything I can do about it :-(

defconjuan commentedI'm using two processors on my QuickStart VirtualBox with no problems. When does the problem manifest?
I have a hexacore AMD and give two cores to my VirtualBox. When I open the resource/system monitor I see both processors each churning away independently.

domidc commentedThe problem manifests itself after I import the .ova and I choose more than one processor. The importing goes fine but when I try to activate the instance you can see what happens in the screenshot.
How do you set it to multiple processors? Perhaps the machine type is of importance? I have sony vaio VPCF11S1E
Processor Sony VAIO VPCF11S1E/B
Processor CORE I7
Brand processor Intel
Processornumber I7-720QM
Type Chipset PM55
Brand chipset Intel
Number of processors 4

domidc commentedSolved:
The problem was that hardware virtualisation was not active. You can activate it in the systems bios. Reboot and when seeing the splash screen of intel press ESC and then F2. You should find a setting to enable hardware virtualisation.

defconjuan commentedAh, ze BIOS, makes sense.

MichaelCole commentedHi, some BIOS's have these settings and some don't.
Anyways, I experience problems on these two configurations. If you get it to work (or not), post your configuration (CPU, Mobo, OS versions, and observations) here.
Dekstop:
- ASUS M4A79T Deluxe AM3 DDR3 AMD 790FX ATX AMD Motherboard
- AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Deneb 3.2GHz Socket AM3 125W Quad-Core Processor Model HDZ955FBGIBOX
- Ubuntu 10.10 host, QS 0.9.1
- Hangs guest on more than one processor. X windows keeps responding, but can't make "changes" (close windows, etc). Maybe file IO stops working?

I've given as many as four cores and 4GB of RAM to QS 0.9.1 and have not had hangs or issues. Ubuntu resource monitors shows each processor individually and when you mointor them, you can see them working independently.

firfin commentedCan assign two processors without a problem.
Asus KT53a Notebook.
On ubuntu 11.04 with virtualbox 4.0.12
Think the version of virtualbox might be relevant in tracking down this bug I think.
MichaelCole commentedHi, I've found upgrading to the most current version of Virtualbox helps resolve these types of issues.
