I'm filing this as new though the problems I'm having have all been reported. The reason is that I have installed the latest Nov. 2006 4.7 version which (from everything I could read) already includes the changes from previous patches that include:
1) no account add button on user page
2) Error: imap_open(): Couldn't open stream {:143/novalidate-cert}* in /home/digita24/public_html/modules/pontomail/IMAPService.inc on line 44.
3) Error: Could not connect to |{:143/novalidate-cert}*|Can't open mailbox {:143/novalidate-cert}*: invalid remote specification
I'm running Drupal 4.7.3 on Linux, MySQL, accessing via Firefox 2 on Mac OS 10.3.9. My shared server is stuck with PHP4.4, but as I understand from reading, one or two of the patches were supposed to fix the PHP4/5 problems.
I've also tried to apply patches separately but not much luck since probably not the version the patches were written for (failing hunks). Too new to know how/where to make changes manually.
I feel completely lost after about 20 hours of futzing with this. I feel like kicking the dog. Please somebody, save my dog.
Thanks.

I had the same problem. Re-install of imap on the server fixed it for a while, after playing with every permutation of settings. Eventually I ticked the box in settings that is for subscribing to a folder and it worked. Great when it does work, although sending using the email address provided instead of with the one in drupal would be handy...
This has the potential to be a fantastic module, especially if there can be some integration with cPanel (create email account, automatically added to pontomail as a server....).

Thanks. Unfortunately, since I am using a shared host, I do not have access to the IMAP server admin functions. I have tried the IMAP folder checkbox in the settings as well as just about every other combination of settings. It will actually allow me to login and show me the inbox after a partially successful application of one of the patches that were posted, however once I'm there I can't do anything--can't delete, can't send, can't open and read from the mail list; everything's greyed out. And as I mentioned before, from what I understood from following the threads, the developer (souvent22?) seemed to indicate that the patches fixing the said problems were incorporated into the latest release, which it doesn't look like it was...or at least not the fix that I used that at least got me as far as seeing my inbox.
Still at a loss at what to try next. Tried RoundCube with similar "success". It has its own set of patches and issues at this point. I figured Pontomail would be the easier route since it seemed more integrated by comparison.
Really wish I could get this running.
