I am new to drupal and obviously new to Omega.

I was trying out the -2dev version and liked it. I saw the new -3 version and the blog entry and got excited! So I wanted to upgrade my -2 to a -3. Somehow, I think I did it all wrong :)

I tried just installing it and was told Omega was installed. I looked at the updates and it was not listed.

So I did the following:

1. Backed up my site/all/themes directory.
2. Nuked the site/all/themes
3. Installed the -3 version.
4. Set Alpha as enabled.
5. Set Omega as default.

Then I went to the command line to create a subtheme:

drush omega-subtheme "DB"
HTML5 Omega Subtheme: DB (db) created and configured for usage. [ok]

Yikes! One of your processes (rsync, pid 12822) was just killed because your
processes are, as a whole, consuming too much memory. If you believe you've
received this message in error, please contact Support.

rsync: writefd_unbuffered failed to write 4 bytes [sender]: Broken pipe (32)

After that, when I go to the appearance section I get a VERY long error, and here is part of it:

PDOException: SQLSTATE[22001]: String data, right truncated: 1406 Data too long for column 'filename' at row 13: INSERT INTO {system} (filename, name, type, owner, info) VALUES (:db_insert_placeholder_0, :db_insert_placeholder_1, :db_insert_placeholder_2, :db_insert_placeholder_3, :db_insert_placeholder_4), (:db_insert_placeholder_5, :db_insert_placeholder_6, :db_insert_placeholder_7, :db_insert_placeholder_8, :db_insert_placeholder_9), (:db_insert_placeholder_10, :db_insert_placeholder_11, :db_insert_placeholder_12, :db_insert_placeholder_13, :db_insert_placeholder_14), (:db_insert_placeholder_15, :db_insert_placeholder_16, :db_insert_placeholder_17, :db_insert_placeholder_18, :db_insert_placeholder_19), (:db_insert_placeholder_20, :db_insert_placeholder_21, :db_insert_placeholder_22, :db_insert_placeholder_23, :db_insert_placeholder_24), (:db_insert_placeholder_25, :db_insert_placeholder_26, :db_insert_placeholder_27, :db_insert_placeholder_28, :db_insert_placeholder_29), (:db_insert_placeholder_30, :db_insert_placeholder_31, :db_insert_placeholder_32, :db_insert_placeholder_33, :db_insert_placeholder_34), (:db_insert_placeholder_35, :db_insert_placeholder_36, :db_insert_placeholder_37, :db_insert_placeholder_38, :db_insert_placeholder_39), (:db_insert_placeholder_40, :db_insert_placeholder_41, :db_insert_placeholder_42, :db_insert_placeholder_43, :db_insert_placeholder_44), (:db_insert_placeholder_45, :db_insert_placeholder_46, :db_insert_placeholder_47, :db_insert_placeholder_48, :db_insert_placeholder_49), (:db_insert_placeholder_50, :db_insert_placeholder_51, :db_insert_placeholder_52, :db_insert_placeholder_53, :db_insert_placeholder_54), (:db_insert_placeholder_55, :db_insert_placeholder_56, :db_insert_placeholder_57, :db_insert_placeholder_58, :db_insert_placeholder_59), (:db_insert_placeholder_60, :db_insert_placeholder_61, :db_insert_placeholder_62, :db_insert_placeholder_63, :db_insert_placeholder_64), (:db_insert_placeholder_65, :db_insert_placeholder_66, :db_insert_placeholder_67, :db_insert_placeholder_68, :db_insert_placeholder_69), (:db_insert_placeholder_70, :db_insert_placeholder_71, :db_insert_placeholder_72, :db_insert_placeholder_73, :db_insert_placeholder_74), (:db_insert_placeholder_75, :db_insert_placeholder_76, :db_insert_placeholder_77, :db_insert_placeholder_78, :db_insert_placeholder_79), (:db_inse

Somehow, I think the omega tools is not working with this dev version.

The only solution I have found is to nuke the site/all/themes and just install omega and not use the omega-tools.

Delta, Omega tools and all other modules are NOT yet working with the 3.x branch. We are working on this.

Thank you for the quick response.

fubhy’s picture

Delta and Omega tools will hopefully be available for 3.x during the next 1-2 days.

Thank you for this magnificent theme... I think I'm in love... All we need is Skinr working and plugged in here and the world will be rainbows!

Anyway, eager to keep on the cutting edge, I believe I'm missing some directions... I upgraded Delta to the 3.x version but what do I need to do to upgrade the Omega theme from 7.2 to 7.3? First I got a WSOD, then I copied the templates directory into my subtheme from Omega, now I can see my site but I'm getting errors on the subtheme:

Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in alpha_container_options() (line 287 of xxxx/sites/all/themes/omega/alpha/includes/alpha.inc).
Warning: max() [function.max]: Array must contain at least one element in alpha_theme_settings_regions() (line 9 of xxxxx/sites/all/themes/omega/alpha/includes/theme-settings-regions.inc).

I notice there isn't a page.tpl.php in the Omega theme, just in the Alpha... is there a documentation page I'm missing somewhere? None of the READMEs say anything. Also the startkits don't have templates...

I realize I'm supposed to use drush to create a subtheme, but I don't have drush installed. Working locally.

What do I need to do to upgrade the theme, and/or to install fresh, without drush?

I do hope in the next few days (over the weekend) that I can get all the starterkits working properly and configured for defaults. Until there is an Alpha version at the minimum, upgrading from 2.x is not highly recommended.

3.x on a new install is working great (with the html5 starterkit), and I HAVE actually updated one of my projects locally to the new version with a "minimal" amount of steps.

When I do package the first alpha, I hope to have at least a short UPGRADE.txt file included with some of the steps that will need attention for upgrading.

When we tag a beta version (probably won't be too far off, maybe a month at most) I hope to have all the docs update on http://himer.us/omega-docs

Thank you guys for being on the ball, and wanting to upgrade, it WILL be worth it! But for now, I do recommend installing a clean version to play with for testing to get a handle on the new setup/interfaces and that will also make upgrading a bit easier when an alpha/beta release is ready.

tchopshop’s picture

Ok, to do a clean install, do i simply copy & rename the starterkit, which seems a little empty? Is there an additional step, like copying the templates folder from Omega or Alpha... I can wait if you're too busy to respond... I'm just eager to get rolling!

himerus’s picture

You can install and simply enable either Omega or the HTML5 starterkit as is, and start playing... those should be working fine...

Hello, I'm not upgrading, I'm just doing a fresh install of Omega on this div site using the 7.x-3.x-dev versions of Omega, Delta, and omega_tools. I am also having the problem of rsync running amok. I'm trying to create a subtheme via drush omega-subtheme "my omega" xhtml I've run this three times and the rsync process just keeps chugging along, eventually I'll kill it after about 10 minutes. Please advise how I can help debug the problem, or if you know what's causing this and I should just wait for a new dev release?

The subtheme directory was created, but it completely borked my site. When I go to "http://testing.dev/admin/appearance" I got an error page (see attached), looks like this is due to an rsync recursion error, perhaps a missplaced "/"? It's a dev site of course, so I just deleted the offending subtheme and all is well now. Maybe the omega_tools have an extra "/" somewhere? Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Thank you!
-Tony

Please use:

Current beta of Delta module
Current beta of Omega Tools module
(for now) Latest dev (better from git checkout) of Omega.

I'm working on final updates to Omega now for alpha release.

The beta (3.x) version of Omega Tools does properly generate subthemes (in several tests)

Got it, I've installed the betas of Delta and Omega Tools, also got the latest 7.x-3.x from git, all is well now for the Drush subtheme creating. Issue resolved for me, thanks!

Real quick question, since I'm still fairly new to Drupal and I don't quite know how the upgrade function works:

If I install the 7.x-3.x-dev version now (which I did, and it's awesome so far) will there be an easy upgrade path to whatever beta and final versions are released?

fubhy’s picture

We more or less "finalized" the Alpha/Omega core during the past days and since all seems to work pretty well we are focusing on polishing the CSS and fixing some IE Compatibility issues (IE6 backward compatibility coming soon). There shouldn't be any problems in Upgrading from the current 3.x-dev to the final realease of this. The only problem that you might run into: There are no docs for 3.x, yet! But in order to encourage you to use it anyhow: I am using it myself already ;).

CUclimber’s picture

Thanks fubhy!

I have a couple more questions, if you don't mind: first, I'm a little confused as to what exactly Alpha is, and how it relates to the base Omega theme and any sub-themes that I create. Is there documentation somewhere?

Also, is the CSS going to be fleshed out a bit more? It seems a little... sparse right now compared to 7.2.

Thanks, and sorry for cluttering this issue up with questions. I can't wait to get my new site built with this new theme.

... all seems to work pretty well we are focusing on polishing the CSS and fixing some IE Compatibility issues ...

So... As I said: The CSS is still being worked on!

As for your other questions: Alpha is the actual Core for Omega now. We moved all the really essential stuff into Alpha for having a clean and leightweight environment with just the basics. Advanced Themers who don't rely on the additional features that are in Omega can choose to use Alpha as their subtheme instead.

So Alpha (base theme) => Omega (base theme, subthteme of Alpha) => YourTheme (subtheme of Omega)
