songs not displayed in playlist block/popup

i just installed the playlist module in a fresh drupal 4.7.5 instalation. i can upload songs, listen to them, add them to a playlist, manage the playlist, delete and create new playlists.
however the songs which are in the playlist do not appear in the XSPF player block (nor in the pop up window). the playlist is apparently loading indefinitely.
the module generates a safe mode error in playlist node page:
warning: set_time_limit(): Cannot set time limit in safe mode in /home/users/webdir/mydirectory/mydirectory/modules/audio/audio.module on line 1525.

i've committed a fix for the safe mode warning. not sure about your other problems though. it sounds like this might be a playlist issue.
